Quick Writing

I have learned that there are many different styles of teaching writing. I personally liked Sitton Spelling the most. I am not sure if it is because it was my topic and I understand it well enough to talk about it, or if it’s because it is a great program. I learned that from this writing program children will only be held accountable for there work. What I mean by this is that, each student will have there own individualized list. They cannot be held back by other students in this teaching style program.
Also I learned that it is most important for students to learn through action. It is very important for students to not be lectured. They learn better through visuals and by actually doing. So, if you were to go to a museum or measure things around the classroom that would stick in their mind longer then if they were to read out of a book.

Learning in the Classroom

Last week we learned about word sorts. I think this is a great way for students to review past words and learn more. This also has them thinking critically. For a word sort you randomly place words all of the board. Then you have the students sort the words into groups. They are supposed to chose words that they think would have the same meanings. I think this would really come in handy to use in my future classroom.

What does a 21st century classroom look like?

To me a 21st century classroom is electronically based. By the end of the 21st century students will no longer be using books and handwriting essays. Students will have laptops and iPad’s instead of textbooks. I think that students thrive on using technology and eventually they will not be able to get away from it. Students will be copying notes from a PowerPoint instead of a blackboard, and when I say copying notes I mean typing notes. This why as future teachers we need to become well trained with technology. This is how we will be expected to teach in the future.
